DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say a man has been critically injured in a dog attack.

The Detroit Free Press reports the victim lost his hands and feet. He was attacked late Thursday by a pack of dogs that escaped from a house on the city’s east side.

Sgt. Michael Woody tells The Detroit News three officers fired several shots at the dogs, killing one of them. The officers lured the other four or five four dogs inside the home and locked them inside.

According to police, the unnamed 40- to 50-year-old man is in critical condition at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

It’s unclear what led to the attack. Woody says police don’t know what the man was doing on the property.
