CHADRON, Neb. (AP) - Authorities in the Nebraska Panhandle have arrested a National Guardsman who they say stole a fire truck form the U.S. Forest Service.

The Scottsbluff Star-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/ZzkKTB ) Thursday that the 26-year-old man faces a felony theft charge. A Sidney police officer says the truck was stolen Sunday in Chadron and found near the city Wal-Mart. The agency reported the vehicle was stolen by the guardsman who went absent without leave.

The suspect tells police he left the agency because of family issues. He is being held at the Cheyenne County jail.
