GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in Mississippi have filed charges against a 28-year-old Texas man they say was found with $1.07 million in Mexican cartel drug money hidden in a SUV he was towing near Pascagoula.

The FBI says Luis Miguel Aguilar Guiterrez, of Brownsville, was pulled over Sept. 3 on a careless driving violation on Interstate 10 when an officer noticed suspicious tool marks.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1r7euI2 ) the FBI suspects Guiterrez planned to take the cash across the Mexican border.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a bill of information Wednesday, charging Guiterrez with bulk cash smuggling and two counts of interstate travel in aid of drug racketeering enterprises.

Guiterrez has been held without bond since his arrest.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
