ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Gateway Arch in St. Louis should stand tall for many years to come, according to a new report.

KMOX Radio (https://cbsloc.al/YUILTU ) reports that Kansas City-based Zahner Co. performed a “deep weld analysis” of the 630-foot-tall Arch. The analysis showed that the Arch, completed in 1965, is in as good a shape as monuments half its age.

Tex Jernigan of Zahner says more lab work remains, but the analysis shows conclusively that there is no rust on the stainless steel surface of the Arch.

Events next year will mark the 50th anniversary. Meanwhile, a multi-million-dollar project is underway to upgrade the Arch grounds and the area around the monument.
