KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - A 57-year-old Memphis, Tennessee, man charged with raping a woman at knifepoint in western Michigan six years ago has made an initial court appearance.

The office of Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette (SHOO’-tee) says Calvin Kelly was arraigned Friday in Kalamazoo District Court. Kelly doesn’t have a lawyer, but will get a court-appointed one next week.

Schuette and Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting announced last month that Kelly was charged with kidnapping, three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of attempted criminal sexual conduct. He was arrested in Tennessee.

Schuette’s office says the victim flagged down a Kalamazoo police officer on U.S. 131 in 2008 and reported the rape.
