KEMAH, Texas (AP) - One person has been injured in a fire that destroyed two boats at a marina southeast of Houston.

Kemah (KEE’-muh) police Chief Greg Rikard told The Galveston County Daily News that a man was working on his boat Thursday when fumes ignited. Flames engulfed the pleasure craft in addition to one docked adjacent to it. At least one other boat was damaged.

Rikard said the man suffered burns to his arms and was taken to a hospital.

Flames engulfed the tops of the boats at Boardwalk Marina and sent black smoke billowing into the sky before firefighters extinguished the fire. Rikard says the smoke forced two nearby businesses to evacuate.
