ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - A northwest Alabama man who fatally stabbed his cousin on New Year’s Eve in 2012 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Kenny Dewayne Adams was sentenced Thursday morning in Limestone County.

Authorities initially said that Adams shot his cousin Yancey Metz Foster over a pair of DVDs that Adams was trying to retrieve. However, WAFF-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1sLH7LY) District Attorney Brian Jones said an affair between Foster and Adams’ wife was the motive. A jury convicted Adams of murder in August.

Adams’ defense attorney tried arguing that Metz was killed in self-defense.
