RANDOLPH, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont State Board of Trustees is tapping Vermont Tech interim president Dan Smith to be the college’s next president.

Smith is a lawyer and Middlesex native who was head of community relations and public policy at the state colleges for four years.

Before that he had been general counsel with the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation.

He has served as interim president for the past seven months. He will formally take over the president’s office Nov. 10.

Vermont State Colleges Chancellor Tim Donovan said he is confident Smith is the right person to lead the college, saying he has the support of its students, faculty and administration.

The Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees announced Smith’s appointment Thursday.
