LELAND, Miss. (AP) - Longtime Leland alderman Russell “Rusty” King III has died while on a hunting trip in South Carolina.

The Delta Democrat-Times reports (https://bit.ly/106qJ1I ) Hampton County, South Carolina, Coroner Ernie Washington Sr. reported King died Wednesday in his sleep of natural causes while staying with friends on a hunting trip in Estill, South Carolina.

Leland Mayor Kenny Thomas also confirmed King’s death.

The 59-year-old King was serving his sixth term as alderman. He was first elected in 1989. He was re-elected to a sixth term last year, defeating Republican challenger Steve Poole.

King was also a businessman in Leland.

Officials at Boone Funeral Home of Leland say funeral arrangements are pending.
