COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio State Bar Association has asked a state Supreme Court candidate to take down a TV commercial that was deemed inappropriate because it implies his opponent isn’t impartial.

The bar association on Thursday sent a letter to Cuyahoga County Judge John O’Donnell taking issue with a TV ad that criticizes opponent Judi French, a sitting state Supreme Court justice.

The letter says the association’s Judicial Election Campaign Advertising Monitoring Committee found that the ad attempts to lead voters to believe that cases are decided in a predetermined way by claiming French “is in the pocket of big utilities.”

The committee says the ad improperly impugns the candidate and the court.

A message was left for O’Donnell Thursday night. French’s campaign said the bar association letter speaks for itself.
