PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a man set his house on fire after sending his children from the home during a barricade situation.

The fire was quickly put out Thursday morning and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. His identity was not released and there was little damage to the house.

According to authorities, the incident started Wednesday night with a dispute between the man and his wife, who was speaking with him by telephone. The children ages 5 to 12 were not injured.

Firefighters were already at the scene when the fire was set because police believed the man had already hurt himself somehow.
