ELON, N.C. (AP) - Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan is maintaining a narrow lead over Republican challenger Thom Tillis in their race for U.S. Senate in the latest Elon University Poll.

The survey of close to 700 likely voters last week and released Thursday showed 45 percent supporting Hagan compared to 41 percent for Tillis, the state House speaker. Six percent said someone else and almost another 7 percent were undecided. The margin of sampling error is less than 4 percentage points.

Hagan held almost exactly the same percentage margin over Tillis in last month’s Elon poll.

Thursday’s poll also found 40 percent of likely voters in North Carolina approved of President Barack Obama’s performance while 52 percent disapproved. Gov. Pat McCrory’s approval rating was 37 percent, with 47 percent disapproving of his job performance.
