GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) - Schalke has extended the contract of Japan defender Atsuto Uchida by three years until 2018.

Uchida has been at Schalke since 2010 and has two goals in 132 games.

Schalke’s director of sports Horst Heldt says Uchida is “incredibly reliable” and has been playing “at a consistently high level for a long time.”

Uchida says Schalke is “very special club with wonderful fans who have always supported me over the years.”
