TEXAS (3-5, 2-3 Big 12) at TEXAS TECH (3-5, 1-4), 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday (Fox Sports 1)

Line: Off.

Series Record: Texas 48-15

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Both teams need three wins in last four games to qualify for bowl game, and both are coming off demoralizing losses. The Longhorns fell 23-0 at Kansas State for their first shutout in 10 years, while the Red Raiders gave up the most points in school history in an 82-27 loss at TCU.

KEY MATCHUP

Texas Tech passing offense vs. Texas pass defense. The Longhorns are eighth in the nation in pass defense, allowing just 171.4 yards per game. Tech QB Davis Webb is day-to-day after reinjuring his left ankle last week. If he plays he’ll need his offensive line to protect him from Jordan Hicks and Steve Edmond. Texas’ senior LBs have combined for 185 tackles, including 19 for losses and five sacks. If Webb can’t play, freshman Patrick Mahomes will make his first career start.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Texas Tech: Webb has thrown for 2,539 yards and 24 TD but also has 13 interceptions. Mahomes has thrown two TDs and been picked off twice.

Texas: Sophomore QB Tyrone Swoopes seems to be gaining confidence and is a dual threat, although he regressed some and in an uneven showing at Kansas State. He’s thrown for 1,495 yards and eight TDs. He’s also thrown five interceptions.
