BAINBRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say the suspect charged with killing a 26-year-old upstate New York man and wounding his father during an apparent road-rage incident is a retired New York City police officer.

State police tell The Daily Star of Oneonta (https://bit.ly/1tkIsyt ) that 56-year-old John Guzy of Bainbridge has been retired for more than a decade.

Guzy was charged with second-degree murder Monday after police said he fatally shot Derek Prindle of Afton and wounded his 60-year-old father, also named Derek, in the parking lot outside a gym in the Chenango County town of Bainbridge.

Troopers say they’re still trying to determine what exactly happened during the encounter the men had on the road before the shooting.

Guzy is being held in the county jail. His public defender wasn’t available for comment Thursday.
