CLEVELAND (AP) - Two men have planted their feet safely back on shore after several Coast Guard crews rescued them off of a flooding boat in Lake Erie.

The 23-foot boat carrying the men began flooding late Wednesday afternoon near Conneaut in northeast Ohio. Coast Guard officials in Buffalo, New York heard a mayday broadcast from the flooding vessel and dispatched rescue crews from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

The Coast Guard said in a statement Thursday that shallow water near the flooding boat kept response vessels from getting close enough to help. The two men, whose names aren’t being released, were hoisted safely into a rescue helicopter. There were no injuries.

Officials say the vessel was partially submerged and was unable to be towed.
