ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Notifications of missing, at-risk adults are now available for law enforcement and the public.

Silver Alerts are similar to Amber Alerts for missing children but apply to vulnerable adults. Legislation passed last year by state lawmakers called for the Department of Public Safety to set up the system.

The Silver Alert is a voluntary partnership between law enforcement agencies, state and local government and Alaska broadcasters.

The department in a release said immediate public notification, using a variety of systems, likely will speed the process of finding and safely returning home a missing vulnerable adult.

Members of the public can view Silver Alerts online or sign up to receive email notifications of the alerts.
