PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) - Police have arrested a Baton Rouge man and are trying to determine whether a second person was involved in a fatal shooting Monday night in Port Allen.

Police Chief Esdron Brown says 19-year-old Javonte T. Morgan was arrested Thursday on counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Brown tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1q7LO2M ) police believe 30-year-old Major Carter and 25-year-old Ashton Taylor, both of Baton Rouge, were in Port Allen Monday night to buy drugs. But, instead, Brown says Morgan tried to rob the two men.

Brown says Carter was shot in the back and later died from his injury. Taylor was shot in the buttocks.

It was unclear whether Morgan has an attorney
