LAS VEGAS (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is making a pre-election visit to Las Vegas, to appear with actress Eva Longoria at a weekend rally aimed at getting Hispanic voters to the polls on Tuesday.

Democrats in Nevada are scrambling, and the last-minute get-out-the vote event Saturday afternoon at a plumbers and pipefitters union hall aims to counter tallies showing nearly 23,000 more Republicans than Democrats have been to early-voting sites as of Friday morning.

Democrats worry that low party turnout could tilt the balance in close state races for attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer and controller.

Party apathy also could boost Republican state Assemblyman Cresent Hardy’s bid to unseat Democratic Congressman Steven Horsford.

Biden’s visit comes just four days after a Las Vegas rally featured Democratic former President Bill Clinton.
