NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Department of Veterans Affairs and Goodwill Industries are having their annual event to help homeless people in the Charleston area.

The 15th annual Stand Down Against Homelessness will be held Friday at Armory Park in North Charleston. During the event, homeless people receive help that includes medical screenings and dental checks along with clothing, food, haircuts and help in finding jobs.

Last year, more than 1,600 people were assisted at the event. Organizers expect that number to be even higher Friday.
