BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Mandan man has admitted to writing a sexually explicit book and giving it to two of his students when he was a high school social studies teacher.

KXMB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1pcKoZS ) that Scott Allan pleaded guilty Friday to promoting obscenity to minors and to disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to probation, along with suspended jail terms of one year and 30 days.

Authorities say Allan gave 17- and 18-year-old females a book he had written as a graduation gift. Allan admitted that characters in the book were based on the teens.

At the hearing, Allan said he was sorry and never meant any harm.

Judge James Hill said Allan had failed himself and his profession.
