KENAI, Alaska (AP) - The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly has approved a proposal to appropriate more than $460,000 from a state grant to install lights along a dark Soldotna path.

The Peninsula Clarion (https://is.gd/5psRcm) reports the lighting approved Tuesday will extend along Poppy Lane from Kalifornsky Beach Road to the Kenai Peninsula College.

College director Gary Turner says it’s more difficult to see pedestrians in the area on dark winter days.

Borough capital projects director Kevin Lyon says the next step is to get a grant agreement in place for the project, which will involve multiple entities.

Lyon says the borough is working with participants to come to an agreement on ownership, construction and maintenance of the path.

The grant agreement deadline is Nov. 25.
