PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Several popular Maine hunting seasons are set to end.

Friday is the final day of the year to hunt deer with a bow statewide. A more restricted archery season lasts until Dec. 13.

Halloween also marks the end of the fall wild turkey season. Turkeys of either sex and any age can be hunted, but hunting is restricted to 18 of the state’s 29 wildlife management districts.

Friday is also the last day of the year to hunt bears with the use of dogs and traps. The general bear season ends Nov. 29.

The use of dogs, traps, and bait to hunt bears is the subject of a Nov. 4 ballot initiative and could be banned in the future.
