DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - A convention being held at a suburban Detroit community college aims to boost political engagement among young voters.

The 11th annual Michigan Student Political Issues Convention is scheduled for Friday at Henry Ford College in Dearborn. The half-day event includes 25 student-led panels.

Dearborn Democrat Debbie Dingell, who is running for husband John Dingell’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, will deliver the keynote speech. John Dingell is retiring this year after 59 years - the longest career in congressional history.

Students also will be able to interact via webcast with their counterparts at the Lebanese American University in Beirut. The university will be moderating two panels about the Middle East crisis involving the Islamic State group.

The event is free and open to the public.
