WEST UNION, Iowa (AP) - Four students and the driver of a North Fayette school district bus have escaped injury after the bus struck a tractor pulling a manure spreader and went into a ditch.

The accident happened about five miles west of West Union at 4:20 p.m. Thursday.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1wQGLuU ) the bus driven by 50-year-old Caroline Bemiss of West Union sideswiped the manure spreader as the tractor driver was attempting to turn into a field.

North Fayette Superintendent Duane Willhite says the children were transported by ambulance to Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union but later were taken home by their parents with no injuries.

He says Bemiss also was evaluated and released from the hospital uninjured.
