OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The other driver in a collision with Oakland Mayor Jean Quan is suing the mayor and the city.

The San Francisco Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1zkZwb2 ) reports that the lawsuit filed by Lakisha Lovely alleges that Quan was on the phone at the time of the June 8 crash and her driving habits are “contemptible, vile and despicable.”

The mayor said in a statement that she was “unequivocally not on her phone.”

Quan, who is up for re-election next week, says she wishes Lovely well and will “continue to focus on the priorities of the people of Oakland.” Her campaign manager calls the suit an unnecessary defamation of character.

A police investigation was unable to determine which driver was at fault or whether any cell phones were in use at the time of the crash.”
