ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A private, Catholic university in Pennsylvania plans to open a Florida campus next year for students who want to pursue doctorates in occupational therapy.

Gannon University president Keith Taylor says the Erie-based school has gotten approval from the Florida Department of Education to offer the program, as well as separate approval for a future master’s degree program for students who wish to be physician assistants.

The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/1pb4N1E ) reports the campus in Ruskin, Florida will open next summer.

Gannon University Ruskin will be located in the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg. Gannon is leasing a building it plans to begin renovating in January in hopes of attracting 10 to 30 students initially.

Eventually, Gannon hopes the campus will be home to 200 to 250 students, with more than 20 employees.
