LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - A power outage that knocked out electricity to thousands of homes and businesses in Lewiston is being blamed on a squirrel.

A spokeswoman for Central Maine Power Co. says a squirrel got into a substation on Thursday afternoon and caused about 6,200 customers to loser power in Maine’s second-largest city.

Power was back on within about an hour.

The utility’s spokeswoman said the squirrel “got into some energized equipment and he became part of the path to ground.”
