SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Rick Weiland says he’s launching a national petition drive to urge Democratic senate candidates to oust Harry Reid as the Senate majority leader.

Weiland said Friday he wants senators to enlist Elizabeth Warren or another member of their caucus to challenge Reid if Democrats retain control of the Senate.

At a debate last week, Weiland says he wouldn’t vote to retain Reid as majority leader if South Dakotans send him to Washington on Tuesday.

Reid has been lukewarm in the past about Weiland’s bid to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson.

Weiland is facing Republican Mike Rounds and independents Larry Pressler and Gordon Howie to replace Johnson.
