LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a 19-year-old woman was badly hurt after she was struck by a pickup truck that ran onto the sidewalk of a busy thoroughfare about 3 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson tells the Las Vegas Sun (https://bit.ly/1nWzSVX ) the 26-year-old driver of the pickup kept driving on Las Vegas Boulevard before a bystander blocked his vehicle and alerted a nearby Las Vegas police officer after the 9:40 a.m. Thursday.

Hixson says the woman was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The injured woman’s name and the identity of the man who was arrested weren’t immediately made public.

Hixson says the man was driving east on Blue Diamond Road when the pickup veered onto the sidewalk and hit the woman.
