GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The western Michigan city that produces the international ArtPrize contest is bringing that spirit into its orchestra’s season-opening concert.

The Grand Rapids Symphony on Saturday evening presents “Inspired By Art.” The concert features works inspired by paintings, sculptures and film and solicited through social media.

Composer and concert curator Adam Schoenberg says he received 42 submissions and chose three along with one of his own compositions.

The program includes Clint Needham’s “Earth and Green,” inspired by Mark Rothko’s painting by the same title. Schoenberg’s piece, “Picture Studies,” is based on four paintings, three photos and one sculpture.

Tickets start at $26 for the concert. It will be held at Peter Martin Wege Theatre.
