HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee will be the featured speaker at the annual Christian Leadership Lecture at William Carey University on Oct. 15.

The Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/1roD8Km ) reports the event is scheduled for 9:25 a.m. in Smith Auditorium.

Magee was elected mayor in 2013. He previously served on the Laurel City Council for 16 years, beginning in 1997. He was Council president in 2001 and from 2004-2006.

A graduate of Laurel High School, Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, Magee serves on the board of directors and the executive board of the Mississippi Municipal League.

Additionally, he is president of the Pine Belt Mayors’ Association, the Laurel Rotary Club and the Oak Park Alumni Association.
