WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington police say the city is seeing a growing number of off-road dirt bikes being ridden illegally through city streets.

Authorities tell The News Journal (https://delonline.us/1rWG2X2 ) that drivers of such illegal vehicles are rarely caught because they are elusive and dangerous for police to chase. A recent hit-and-run crash that seriously injured teen brothers on a dirt bike highlights the problem.

Authorities say such illegal joyrides risk crashes, especially by young drivers.

State statistics show an uptick in dirt bike crashes in Wilmington this year compared with the last three years.
