KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A fire at a Knoxville apartment complex has sent one person to the hospital and displaced 22 others.

According to media, the blaze was reported early Monday.

Knoxville Fire Department Capt. D.J. Corcoran says crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor and later found a mattress burning in the building’s laundry room.

A sprinkler had activated and suppressed the fire, but it caused heavy water damage throughout the building.

One resident was taken to the hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. Others were taken to stay in temporary quarters until repairs can be made.

Officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
