MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Transportation Security Administration officials say 19 firearms have been found this year at security checkpoints at Memphis International Airport, one more than during all of last year.

TSA says a loaded .380 caliber Kel-Tec was found in a passenger’s carry-on bag Wednesday morning at the Memphis airport.

TSA agents alerted airport police, who took possession of the bag and cited the passenger on local charges.

Firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags. They can be transported in checked baggage, provided they are declared to the airline, in a proper carrying case and not loaded.

The weapon was the 19th firearm discovered at a security checkpoint by TSA officers at the airport this year. TSA says 18 firearms were found at Memphis airport checkpoints in 2013.
