ENTERPRISE, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a man cutting wood in the far northeast corner of Oregon has died after a nearby dead tree fell on him.

The La Grande Observer (https://bit.ly/1pRdadd) reported that he was 57-year-old Sam Bowman of Enterprise, a member of the Wallowa County search and rescue team. He was with his wife, Stacy Bowman, a sheriff’s office dispatcher, on Monday in a remote area 40 miles northeast of Joseph.

Wallowa County Sheriff Steve Rogers says attempts to reach the couple were impeded by spotty cellphone connections, but eventually a hunter on a four-wheeler drove Stacy Bowman to a spot with better service.
