EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A sixth-grade teacher at East Hartford’s Sunset Ridge School has been named the 2015 Connecticut Teacher of the Year.

Cara Quinn was joined by state and local officials at an announcement at the school on Wednesday.

Throughout her 11 years in Connecticut schools, Quinn has distinguished herself as a teacher who challenges her students to “shatter their individual glass ceilings” and to make a difference in the world.

Quinn says in addition to trying to inspire her students academically, she is equally focused on her students’ character development.

Quinn has also spearheaded initiatives to broaden student horizons regarding college and careers.

Quinn now becomes Connecticut’s representative for National Teacher of the Year award.
