MIAMI (AP) - A South Florida man has been convicted of killing a Miami police detective.

Jurors found Andrew “Birdman” Rolle guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday in the 2008 slaying of Miami Detective James Walker

The Miami Herald (https://tinyurl.com/o8hysyb) reports the verdict came one day after the 12-person jury suggested it was deadlocked at 6-6.

Prosecutors said Rolle was looking to avenge a rival who had stolen a gun. After firing into the street, Rolle ran to his get-away car, but the driver had left. Instead, Detective Walker drove up, ironically in the same car.

When Rolle tried to get into what he thought was his getaway car, the detective pulled out his gun. Prosecutors say Rolle shot the detectives using an AK47.

The defense said no forensic evidence linked Rolle to the crime scene.
