YORK, Pa. (AP) - A south-central Pennsylvania jury says it has found a man guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a woman 3 1/2 years ago.

A York County jury also found Timothy Jacoby guilty Wednesday of burglary, robbery and tampering with evidence.

Jacoby was charged in the March 2010 shooting death of 55-year-old Monica Schmeyer. Prosecutors say they believe she was killed in a botched robbery, and they are asking jurors to return Thursday to decide whether to impose the death penalty.

A sheriff’s deputy testified that part of the pistol barrel found on Jacoby’s property had been ground or filed.

Defense attorney Brian Perry had suggested that Schmeyer was killed by someone who was angry with her, and his client and the victim didn’t know each other.
