LOS ANGELES (AP) - A man who killed two women in Los Angeles 30 years ago has been sentenced to death.

A jury recommended in May that 50-year-old Kevin Haley be executed for the June 1984 killing of Laverne Stolzy and the September 1984 killing of Dolores Clement.

On Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy denied a defense motion to reduce the jury’s recommendation to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

City News Service says Haley was originally sentenced to death for the killings in 1988, but his sentence was overturned in 2004 by the state Supreme Court.
