SUMRALL, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County will spend $289,200 to build a new senior center in Sumrall.

The board of supervisors on Monday awarded the construction contract to Fairley Construction Services Inc. of Petal.

The new facility will be 2,400-square-foot facility. It will have triple the seating of the current senior center.

Supervisor Dale Lucus tells the Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/1qbgOxN ) that the current center was built in the 1970s.

Lucus says the contract calls for 90 days of construction so the center is expected to open after the first of the year.

Administrator Chuck Bennett says the county had budgeted $300,000 for the center’s construction so the bid came in under projections.
