PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The city of Pascagoula has hired a Alabama company to run a detailed review of the city’s natural gas metering and billing system.

City officials tell The Mississippi Press (https://bit.ly/1w0QKcZ ) they hope the work by Jackson, Alabama-based Kel-Ar Energy Consulting will determine how to reduced natural gas losses, which stand at about 16 percent.

City Engineer Jaci Turner says the city’s gas losses for years held at 8 percent to 9 percent but over the last five to six years, the rate has crept upward.

Turner says the company will determine if gas meters are calibrated properly and are being read accurately.

She says the company will inspect the billing process to make sure there are no issues there causing the gas to be unaccounted for.
