SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah State Parks will hold its annual Antelope Island bison roundup later this month.

Riders on horseback will move the herd across the island Oct. 24 to a facility where they will be weighed and examined. The animals living on the island in the Great Salt Lake form one of the country’s largest and oldest public herds.

The agency says in a Wednesday statement visitors are invited to watch the roundup from Eastside Road leading to Fielding Garr Ranch. Binoculars are recommended for a view of the bison and handlers.

State Parks workers will sell excess bison Nov. 8 to make sure food available on the island can support the population. The island is located about 50 miles north of Salt Lake City.
