MARRERO, La. (AP) - Jefferson Parish authorities say a deputy shot a suspected bank robber in the leg.

Col. John Fortunato says Deputy Ted Raymond spotted an SUV that was seen leaving a Marrero bank that was robbed Thursday morning.

Fortunato says Raymond chased the suspect for several block before he lost control of the SUV and crashed into a house.

As the suspect exited his vehicle, Fortunato says he turned a gun toward Raymond who fired his gun striking the man in the leg.

After jumping over several fences in the neighborhood, deputies arrested the 38-year-old Gary Brandon of Marrero.

Fortunato says Brandon is being treated at University Hospital.
