LAS VEGAS (AP) - Casino workers say they’ll stage a protest march through an upscale Las Vegas community without a permit from Nevada’s transportation department.

Culinary Workers Union Local 226 says the Thursday march on Charleston Boulevard is to protest Station Casinos labor practices.

A company spokeswoman says the majority of employees at the company’s several neighborhood casinos aren’t interested in joining the union.

A transportation department spokesman says the permit was denied because the union asked to shut down a half-mile stretch of state highway with less than 24-hours’ notice.

The department says the union is free to protest, but can’t block traffic.

The 5 p.m. protest is slated to include Pavilion Center Drive to Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.

The resort is owned by Station Casinos and is the company’s headquarters.
