ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The Coast Guard has suspended its four-day search for a northeast Florida man who disappeared after setting to sea by himself on his 27-foot boat.

The Florida Times-Union reports (https://bit.ly/1EyHx1U ) that 57-year-old Peter Rodrigues’ empty boat washed ashore on Sunday evening.

Authorities say Rodrigues was a former Navy SEAL and construction contractor, and had gone on a solo outing to repair an antenna in the boat’s cabin.

Rodrigues, president of RPC General Contractors of Atlantic Beach, was an experienced boater.

Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Gabe Somma says the case highlights the dangers of sailing solo.

The Coast Guard was aided by a number of agencies including the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Navy. It searched by air and sea for four-days before suspending its search.
