CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Medical University of South Carolina is inaugurating its new president.

Dr. David Cole was selected earlier this year to become the seventh president of the Charleston medical school. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Thursday afternoon on campus.

Cole, the former chairman of the university’s department of surgery and president of MUSC Physicians, was one of three finalists selected from more than 50 applicants in a nationwide search.

Cole succeeds Dr. Ray Greenberg, who left last year to take a position with the University of Texas Health System.
