FOSTER, R.I. (AP) - A reading specialist at Captain Isaac Paine Elementary School in Foster has been awarded a $25,000 national education award.

Erin Quinlan was named the Rhode Island winner of the Milken Educator Award on Thursday. Quinlan is in her second year at the school, where she also serves as an instructional coach. She previously taught in the East Providence school system and began her career as a music teacher and band director at schools in Minnesota.

The awards are given to exceptional elementary and secondary school teachers, principals and specialists. The money can be used in any way.

The Milken Family Foundation is honoring up to 40 teachers with the awards this year.
