BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Police in coastal Georgia say an officer accused of holding three people hostage at an apartment complex is charged with kidnapping and other offenses.

Brunswick police Capt. Kevin Jones told local media that 43-year-old officer Darryl Williams may have been upset about a personnel issue and was overheard making a threat at city hall that prompted a lockdown Wednesday.

Jones says Williams later fired a gun while taking three hostages at an apartment complex.

Authorities say Williams eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.

No injuries were reported and Jones says the officer is in the Glynn County jail. Police say the officer is also charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault.

Police say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the incident.
