GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a handcuffed man escaped after breaking away from a guard while being led into a central Indiana jail.

The Hancock County Sherriff’s Department says that 45-year-old Tony Bowling got away about 6 a.m. Thursday while being moved from a transport van to the jail in downtown Greenfield.

The department says Bowling had been arrested on warrants from Hancock and Johnson counties for non-violent offenses, including fleeing law enforcement and failure to pay child support.

Officials say Bowling had a brief altercation with a guard who wasn’t injured. Bowling ran from the area and police officers were using search dogs in an attempt to find him.
